After several weeks of testing, it is now possible to determine that the only suitable function is log(). 
The best upper bound is EE9, which is init_OFF(1,1E1000000000) or \(b = e^{10^{10^9}} \).

No matter how you tweak it, beta_taylor is bound to fail at EE10, and I think that's the ultimate industrial upper bound.
