Yeah, the discontinuity in the derivative means that very large numbers of terms would be required in the fourier series. It doesn't seem like a terribly useful idea. With 8,192 terms, I was able to get accuracy to 1E-7 or so.
Mapping an infinite strip to a unit circle seemed like a good idea, but in practice, not usable.
