I'm very fucking confused in this thread. What is \(||z||\)? How exactly do you know that the semi-group functional equation is being satisfied?

I'm not doubting you, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. But I'm still confused. Mphlee just made me more confused.

Could you perhaps draw out the argument more, Leo? I'd really appreciate it.
