One of the first people to consider getting digits for constants in binary , by using **iterations** is Simon Plouffe.

These ideas imo deserve much much more attention then they got.

See this paper and screenshot : 

I think I have seen one for apery's zeta(3) too.



...

Ideas like this should exist for e^(1/e) and others too.
